The relation between perception of justice behaviour, deviant behaviour and citizenship (2003 - 2006)

Project Leader:

Maria Gouveia Pereira

Project's Summary:

The main aim of the present project is to analyse the impact of justice behaviour perceptions of both teachers and parents in the exercise of citizenship and in deviant behaviours. The incidence of citizenship exercise assessment will be submitted to the dimensions of school context and to interactive dimensions in relation to the task. The incidence of deviant behaviour assessment will be submitted to social context in general. The participants of this study will be adolescents of both gender, ranging from 8º to 11º year of scholarship. We will use instruments already used in prior investigations (Gouveia-Pereira, Vala, Palmonari & Rubini,2003).The achievement of the objectives related requires the development of exploratory and complementary inquiry about justice, institutions and behaviour in the institutional contexts. So, we intended develop also those inquiries.

Project’s aims:

Previous research revealed the existence of a relationship between the way individuals are treated and behaviours adopted towards groups and social contexts. Face to this data, we propose the present investigation with the following objectives:(a) analyse the relation between the perception of justice behaviour of teachers and citizenship exercise in school context and in deviant behaviours; (b) to analyse the psychological processes that underlines the relationship described earlier, mainly the role of group pride as a mediator (c) analyse the influence of perception of parental justice behaviour in the citizenship exercise in school context and in deviant behaviours.(d) to analyse the psychological processes that underlines the relationship described earlier, mainly the role of family pride as a mediator We expect with the current project to enlarge the comprehension of the factors that prompt an active citizenship exercise by the adolescents as well as the deviant behaviours assumed by those adolescents. This comprehension will allow to fundament direct support intervention to the adolescents, and also the development. We intended, also, develop the exploratory and complementary inquiries related with the specific objectives indicated in the previous paragraph.
